Sophie Gombya

Sophie Gombya is a Ugandan musician and social activist, widely recognized for her contributions to Uganda’s band music scene. She was born on September 8, 1969, in Kampala and developed a passion for music from an early age. She gained prominence in the 1980s with her debut album Nkwekutte, which featured hit songs like Omwana W'omutebi and showcased her ability to blend traditional Ugandan sounds with contemporary band music.

Aside from her music career, Sophie is also known for her activism, advocating for musicians’ rights and social issues in Uganda. She is married to fellow musician Sam Gombya, and together they have produced multiple albums and performed duets. Their popular song Spare Tyre is among her well-known singles.

Sophie Gombya and Sam Gombya got married on July 10, 2004, at Namirembe Cathedral, with a reception at Kiwatule Recreation Centre. Their wedding was supported by well-wishers, and they later had their honeymoon in Mbale. Over the years, the couple has credited their successful marriage to strong communication and their faith.
